The Gems are a secret organization dealing with missing and exploited children. The Gems, acting as potential prey themselves, take on the likes of human traffickers, internet predators and sex offenders who’ve moved into neighborhoods and casually hang around schoolyards. For some of the Gems, it’s a job – a good job where they get to use their talents. For others, it’s not just a job – it hits close to home.

One of the Gem operatives, she’s a loner: she has no family – or so she’ll claim – and very few friends. And she likes it that way. She likes to shrink into her clothes or bury her face in a hoodie. Mave looks much younger than her 23 years. She could pass for a teenager, and in fact, has. Mave is a new recruit to the Gems, and for her working with this organization is considerably more satisfying than her volunteer work with abused children. The agency only let her file paperwork and clean up after high-buck fundraisers. Mave transforms into Diamond, five feet and ten inches of tall and blonde with the strength of a diamond, and the ability to shoot lasers out of her arm.
