FASERIP

KING OF APES John "Clayton"*, Viscount "Greystoke"*

King of Apes is the son of a British lord and lady who were marooned on the coast of Africa by mutineers. When King of Apes was an infant, his mother died, and his father was killed by Kerchak, leader of the ape tribe by whom King of Apes was adopted.

Soon after his parents' death, King of Apes became a feral child, and his tribe of apes is known as the Mangani, great apes of a species unknown to science. Kala is his ape mother. Adventures occurring during King of Apes's adolescence began a career as one of the greatest heroes ever known.

* The chronicler of King of Apes, Edgar Rice Burroughs has acknowledged these names as fictional to disguise the real identity and family of King of Apes.

Powers:
Raised by the Mangani, King of Apes has developed a wide array of physical Powers as well as eventually winning the secret of Immortality.

  • SWINGING (Astounding): King of Apes can swing on ropes and vines, or anything else suitable with effortless grace and ease equal or better than any trapeze artist.
  • LORD OF THE BEASTS (World Class): A limited form of empathy and Telepathy and his great sympathy and attunement to animals of all kinds allows King of Apes to call upon all animals in range of his mighty voice. When he lets out his call to the wild in the form of a yodelling cry or yell, all animals within range of this Power come to his location and await his command, if any. King of Apes can also make a Silver or higher roll on this power to select a type of animal to summon. The animals serve him voluntarily but it is still effectively a form of short duration Mind Control while called upon to serve him. King of Apes never abuses this gift, never sends animals into battle ahead of him and never throws their lives away.
  • REGENERATION (Decent): King of Apes heals extraordinarily quickly and generally has an incredibly robust physique.
  • SUPER SENSES (World Class): King of Apes has heightened sense of smell, sight and touch. He uses these heightened senses to detect danger or track his prey.
  • DANGER SENSE (Decent)
  • MASTER OF SKILL (Survival, Forest & Jungle)(Astounding)
  • FEATS OF STRENGTH (Great): King of Apes can, when enraged enough, shift his Strength for one round to Astounding (50).
  • NATURE HAS THE ANSWER (WIZARDRY: Gadgets) (Great): By going on a relatively short quest as set by the gamemaster, King of Apes can attempt to find a "Gadget" in the form of a plant, berry, animal venom, tooth, totem, idol, traditional medicine pill, mysterious element, gem or other product of the natural world or savage lands that answers a need. The Rank of the Power notwithstanding, the Gadget can provide a solution or weakness for any potential threat or foe.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS (World Class)
  • KAVURU PILLS (IMMORTALITY): Following a dangerous quest, King of Apes and his wife Jane, together with a Chimp ally Nkima, their son Korak and a couple of American allies on the quest receive equal amounts of the Kavuru Pills. This folk medicine created by the apparently immortal but certainly violent and peculiar Kavuru people grants Immortality in the form of long life - but not indestructibility. Although the character does not seem to age for many decades, they can still be hurt or killed.
For this reason this Power which ordinarily does not have a Rank has a Rank equal to the character's Psyche for the purposes of determining if they will in fact reform or come back from the dead.

  • Contacts:
Jane Porter (wife): As an 18-year-old, King of Apes meets a young American woman named Jane Porter. She, her father, and others of their party are marooned on the same coastal jungle area where King of Apes' human parents were 20 years earlier. When Jane returns to the United States, King of Apes leaves the jungle in search of her, his one true love. Eventually, King of Apes and Jane marry. In later books, he lives with her for a time in England. They have one son, Jack, who takes the ape name Korak (the Killer). King of Apes is contemptuous of what he sees as the hypocrisy of civilization, so Jane and he return to Africa, making their home on an extensive estate in British East Africa that becomes a base for King of Apes' later adventures.
    Korak (son)
La of Opar, originally an enemy now a firm friend

    Limitations:
    Contempt for Civilization
    Stalled

    Notes:
King of Apes, Jane, King of Apes' monkey friend Nkima, and their allies gained some of the Kavuru tribe's pills that grant immortality to their consumer.
