The Gems are a secret organization dealing with missing and exploited children. The Gems, acting as potential prey themselves, take on the likes of human traffickers, internet predators and sex offenders who’ve moved into neighborhoods and casually hang around schoolyards. For some of the Gems, it’s a job – a good job where they get to use their talents. For others, it’s not just a job – it hits close to home.

Moonstone is another female operative who has the power of moonbeams. She and Diamond have a mysterious relationship. Is that unease they have around one another? Or is there a history? Could it be desire? They are both aware of the organizations strict code against fraternization. But Moonstone is conflicted about coming back to the organization; its operations almost collapsed after a major fiasco.
