Tom Corbett is one of the many Cadets at the Space Academy as they train to become members of the Solar Guard. Tom is the charismatic leader of the team. Their ship, the "Polaris" took them to numerous adventures, usually natural catastrophes rather than villains.

POLARIS (nuclear powered rocketship)

Polaris is 200 feet long composed of polished beryllium steel alloy. It is equipped with four powerful atomic engines. The bow of the ship contains the radar deck and control deck, each operated by one of its three person crew. At the aft of the ship is the power deck. The ship is armed with 3" & 6" atomic blasters and twenty space torpedoes. It also carries Paraloray Guns and Blast Rifles for use by the crew.

In addition to its crew the Polaris can also carry up to Wondrous Cargo Weight provided the cargo is in modular crates or other secure storage. Loose cargo on the ship is dangerous and forbidden by regulations in any case.

Space Torpedoes can be fitted with proximity or acousting detonators and home in on a target with the equivalent of Astounding Agility.

Notes:

Atomic fuels needed for the Polaris are made with a catalyst known as N72C. The catalyst refines the natural titanium into reactive mass which is then fed into the engines at a fixed rate. The power deck is considered both radioactive "hot" as well as temperature "hot".
